Creating a Lean Ubuntu 8.04 Appliance VMWare Image
I’ve spent some time looking for a solution for setting up VMWare tools on a clean Ubuntu 8.04 instance, the information I found is scattered, incomplete and seldom incorrect. This first post of the blog describes the steps required to setup and configure a lean (minimal disk requirements) Ubuntu 8.04 VMWare appliance to be used a a base for a variety of server roles.
When virtualizing servers, it is important to correctly setup the VMWare tools to reduce the memory overhead, increase performance and improve integration with the host OS.
